USB PROBLEM - very weird!

One flashdrive I have works perfectly in the usual USB ports.

Another one I have crashes the ports.

What happens is, literally nothing.

The flashdrive doesn't appear in Windows Explorer. It's as if the computer suddenly doesn't even know that there's a port there.

Weird thing is, the flashdrive that crashes the ports on MY computer, works perfectly well on others.

In other words,

The offending flashdrives work in some computers with Windows 7 but not in mine.

One flashdrive works perfectly in mine AND in others as well. Once the drives are uninstalled and the computer rebooted, the good flashdrive works and the bad ones crash the ports again.

Updating the drivers doesn't work as the computer says the present ones are fine.

It's not the ports because one flashdrive works consistently. It's not the flashdrives because they work on other computers.

Any suggestions?

Sounds more like a bad USB port. Try removing and reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work, try updating the motherboard drivers.

If all else fails, don't use that USB port.

How do you actually remove and reinstall the drivers?

In device manager, right click on the USB port and select properties. Then go to the driver tab, and choose uninstall. Then restart.

I've tried that. It restores the ports so the "good" flashdrive works but they crash again as soon as I use the "bad" one.

It's not a problem with the "bad" flashdrive though, because every other computer I've tried it on likes it.

Hi
I still suggest the same thing that Lordbob sugessted. But I would un-install all the USBport driver (follow what LB said), then restart your machine. After restart, all the usb drivers will be re-installed
Try that (sorry if I misunderstand what you did)
