Can the 1st and 3rd partition be joined?

Please take a look at the image and let me know if it's possible to join the unallocated space with D: partition. As you will see, C: is stuck in the middle. Incidently D: has XP for backup and annoyingly the boot files (which I want to correct but that's another issue).

Currently I'm using the free Partition Wizard but if another 3rd party software will do it then please let me know.

Thanks very much for your attention and any help you can give me.

Can you? It is possible, however, its not worth it. Very time consuming and dangerous. You would be better off starting anew.

Partition Wizard will do it. Do a Move/Resize on the C: and move it to the right in to the unallocated space. If that works OK then next extend D: into the new unallocated space left from moving C:

Do an image backup of them before you move them. I like http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp and it is also free.

Thanks very much, I was already scratching my head trying to figure how to "move" the C: drive and used the "copy" method instead before I realised! Anyway after having to use my boot repair disc after deleting the old C: (it couldn't find a device driver to load) it now works.

I must say, I wouldn't heartedly recommend the way I did it but hey presto!

Glad it worked out. Partition Wizard is a great program. On their site they have many tutorials and worth a read.
