Graphic Card Issue after clean install of Windows 7

first, i'm apologizing for being a computer idiot, but I've never actually messed with / installed a sound card myself. I had it installed by someone who knew what he was doing. :\

okay, so:
i just did a clean install of Windows 7.
a few months ago, i had a new graphics card installed to allow me to play The Sims 3. everything worked fine for months, just exactly like it is now, until I installed Windows 7.

Now, in my device manager, I show two graphics cards:
- Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (Microsoft Corporation WDDM)
- Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Both show up as fully updated with working drivers, and claim to be working properly, but in my display settings, it shows up as "Generic PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter." I've disabled the VGA Graphics adapter in Device Manager, but when I restart the computer, it says "Default Monitor on," with no adapter listed.

Even though I always hooked my monitor into the motherboard, I tried plugging it directly into the graphics card, but the monitor shows nothing except for the "Monitor is working, test red, test blue, etc."

I also tried to enter BIOS and disable my onboard video card; but I didn't see an option to do that (I have Phoenix BIOS on an Emachine T2615, btw).

I actually uninstalled the OnBoard video through device manager, but it automatically installed when I restarted my computer.

I would just wait and take it to the guy who installed it (i won't go to best buy or any of those computer repair people who also sell computers; they don't want to fix it, they want you to buy new - always) but he's on vacation next week and I don't want to wait two weeks to play a stupid game.

I checked the Compatibility center, and they say it's compatible.
So, my question is, How do i get my computer to use the Radeon card?

not knowing exactly which bios your pc uses its hard to say, but it should say something like "onboard video adaptor" with a drop down list next to it with "enable/disable" ,will have a search for your bios and have a look BRB ;)

i think (not having your mobo) the settting may be in 'integrated peripherals' - change 'init display first' to 'pci-e slot' , or something like that...

pebbly sorry to say but the driver you linked to won't work with that card, ATI has relegated it to legacy status (same with any ATI card below the HD 2xxx series of cards) and as such there is not now and never will be a Windows 7 driver for it. That isn't to say there isn't one that won't work, you just have to use the Vista legacy driver with those cards,

ATI Catalyst™ Legacy Display Driver

which when the motherboard/chipset drivers cooperate in Windows 7, work quite well (using the same driver on a similar vintage spec'ed computer with an old 9800 Pro in it). Seeing as smash1012's card appears to be identified correctly it is a good chance that those drivers will install and work.

thanks for the info mm , smash1012 the user guide for your mobo does not give any bios info or is'nt available anywhere on the website so follow the advice of mickey megabyte and look for integrated peripherals and then disable from there ;) in your case it would be AGP first
