Win7 64bit more than 4gigs of ram?

Hi everyone I'm new to these forums and honestly just would like a problem/question answered.

I installed windows 7 home premium 64bit today and I had an extra 2gigs of ram laying around that I could not use with xp. I have 4gigs (2, 2gig sticks) already installed and I wanted install the other 2gigs (2, 1gig sticks). "2"1" "2"1" they
both are the same brand and type ocz ddr2 2.1v however the timings are 4-4-4 on the 1gig sticks and 4-4-5 on the 2gig sticks not sure if that matters

When I put the extra ram in win7 doesn't boot and stops right before the verifying DMI pool data

I have a gigabyte GA-ep35-ds3l motherboard

Relax the timing to JEDEC defaults, which should be 5-5-5-18 IIRC. Try standard 1.8V or even 1.85V and see if that helps.

I would but also when I put more than 4gigs it doesn't even let me into bios

I have found that miss matching ram is nothing but a hassle. Yes in some cases working with voltages and timing if your motherboard and bios will allow it you can sort it out but it's hassle. The easy answer is : Just get all the ram you want making sure all stick are the same in every way that your motherboard will allow. Check your motherboards web site for suggested ram and run with it.

Mismatching RAM isn't as big of a deal anymore as it used to be, but I still don't like doing it. However, Ztruker hit on the solution. You were populating the both types of memory slots on your board, which is a problem. Whether the extra memory is DDR or DDR2 (not specified), it still won't boot.
