Recommend a good Hard drive...

I was planning on getting a new drive, but can anybody please direct me to something really worth seeing.

Something that is not too expensive for a price range of $100-130 for at least 200GB in size and if possible, a solid state one. Thanks...

unfortunately you will not get a 200 gig solid state drive for that money. 200 gigs would cost around $600 (US prices).

$130 should get you 1 terrabyte (1000 gigs) of storage (maybe a bit more) - i can't recomend any particular drive as i don;t know what is available where you live, but you should be okay if you stick with a good name brand eg samsung, seagate, fujitsu, hitachi etc

$130 for 1TB is more than good enough, you can recommend me one please. Doesn't matter if its not available on my place but at least I get an idea of the prices and perhaps we can see if you can purchase it online via Amazon or something....

it's speedy, quiet, and gets good reviews.

Is this for a desktop or a laptop. If it were for a desktop, you could get a small SSD plus a HDD. Small SSDs are available for as low as $80 (in the US) and are completely sufficient for the OS. That would give you a significant performance boost.

In your price range, solid state drives are probably going to be only 40 gb or maybe 60 gb.

In traditional spinning drives, you can get many drives of at least 1 TB for under $100. I just saw a sale price on a 1.5 TB Western Digital green drive for $80.

I also just saw a 250 GB Seagate drive on sale for $35.

I'd stick with Western Digital or Samsung, personally. Probably a Western Digital Caviar Black, if you are referring to a desktop drive.

Laptop drives are noticeably more expensive.

I've currently got two Samsung 640GB F1's in this machine and just put a F3 1TB in another machine.

Compared to the WD's, Seagate's they are indeed much quieter and run a heck of a lot cooler.

Does your motherboard accommodate SATA drives? It might not, depending on how "aging" it is.

Mate it's a HDD - who cares how the thing looks? :huh:

Even on extreme modded / show computers - not once have I ever seen or read someone saying 'wow' your HDD looks cool...

It's an internal HDD - not a show piece :rolleyes:


And as long as your board has sata connections, you're good to go. If it's only 2 years old then the chances are extremely high that it does.

I think you have something wrong in the conversion. A 200 GB solid state drive is around $150 to $200 here in the States....and sometimes less if you shop around and catch a deal. In my Ultrabook, I have a Corsair Force3 240 GB that cost me $180.
