Safe removal of network adapter (!?)

After startup i get the safe removal icon telling me that its now safe to remove my network adapter (broadcom), even though it is neither external or a USB device. Even though this is harmless its still a bit annoying, so does anyone know how to fix this apart from simply turning the notifications off? I run W7 premium 32 on a compaq 615 notebook. I would suggest looking in the device manager to see if there is an indication that device appears in the manager itself. If so, disable it.
