I think this is where the problem is, just check out the screen shot.... The same thing is happening with my Itunes and now supreme commander that i installed recently... could there be something that is deleting those folders? or could the be misplaced in a diff folder?

What are you using to keep your system "clean"? some clean up utilities are very aggressive, I've had occasions where the installer folder was empty!! In this case the Add and Remove Programs function stops working as it's searching for the installers!
I wouldn't think for a minute they've been "misplaced" in the wrong folders.

Also, to make life easier for yourself, in your folder view (View, Choose Details...), tick the "author" option to show who the folders belong to/what put them there.

Probably you have installed some Icon Pack . From my experience I can say that installing Iconpacks like stardock or alienware makes such a critical situation. As all of your third party icons are giong to be crazy, it would be too much laborious to correct everything using my tutorial. So you have to seek another wayout.

Do you have the windows 7 installer dvd? If so, better you go for a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html . Follow the tutorial, and dont forget to use the "upgrade" option. Then only a few programs like iTunes is to be reinstalled later. All your documents and settings will be in windows old folder.

After successful http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html , at first http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html , and then go for further customization.

As a member of this forums, Ask somebody others before going to install any theme. You may remain free of risk in this way.

CCleaner is the hand wash of clean up utilities (Usually!! See below! Or above!!), so that's good.

And Ccleaner setting should be like the shot .... otherwise it will become aggressive
Before going the Repair install route I would re-install the missing softwares. This should re-add there "missing" stuff to the installer folder. I'd back up my registry settings or any config files first though.

Lol .... you are right, it would be less laborious , but for me, dont know why, reinstalling office was not able to bring the lost icons back. Moreover, it will give us the chance to backup from a fresh point :)

If i do a repair install what is the likely hood of me losing all of my installed drivers and programs? And will the computer be as new again? what is the point of doing a repair install... After doing the repair install how am i going to prevent this from happening again.

Well i shall reinstall the programs and then post a screenshot of my new Windows installer folder... :)

I just closed everything to start the uninstalling of the relevant programs... only to discover that there are now even more programs that are losing their icons... is this a contagious thing? could there be something that is actively taking away my icons? It sucks that there is no option to repair the icon like in XP... if i am going to have to reinstall every program that's icons are not present in that folder im just going to leave it... the icons are fine then the program is running and it is purely a cosmetic reason why i want them fixed...

Sorry, I should have explained better, I don't uninstall, just re-install/repair. That usually (not always) does the trick. Some programs, windows live for example, don't play along with this.
