Play an .AVI File on a DVD Player

I have a 1gb .avi File that I'd like to be able to play on a DVD Player or an Xbox. Is there a program (paid or free) that'll assist me? I looked online for tutorials but they were confusing

That depends on what dvd player you have. Look into the player manual, it'll tell you what formats are supported.

E.g. I have a relatively new dvd player and it has a usb port from where i can play avi and divx on a usb stick. I can also burn avi/ divx as a DATA dvd and play it on this player. But thats specifically because mine supports these formats.

If yours doesnt, you'll need to convert the avi to vcd/ svcd/ dvd, burn to disk, then play the disk in your dvd player. If your primary interest is watching the avi on an external monitor or your television set, you can hook up the computer to the external monitor or TV set with an SVCD cable (or whatever you prefer), then simply play the avi on your computer.

Lol, none of that makes any sense to me. I know that I don't have a USB Drive on my DVD Player.

1) Read the dvd player manual. What formats does it support?

2) What is the DVD player model number? Then we can google to find its capabilities.

This is a hardware thing, it the player doesnt support AVI, it wont play it.

Windows 7 has a built in program called Windows DVD Maker. You can add your avi file or even pictures and it will convert and burn it to your DVD writer.

By going to Google I find you are not alone with this problem. There are a number of posts but I didn't find one solution. The only thing I can think of that might work is to slow down the burning speed. Serious Video enthusiasts nearly always burn at a speed lower than the max the writer can do. It seems to produce less problems. The way to turn it down in Windows DVD Maker is to put your clip/clips in the timeline and click "Options" When that windows opens go to the lower half and you will see the speed drop down box. Set it to "Slow" and see if that helps. It will take loger to burn but it might just be worth the wait.
Failing that I will offer you the same thing as I did for Spotted Feather with his video problem where I have downloaded a shortened clip of his to test in my Video Software collection. It has worked for him. Let me know and I will send the procedure.

Try DVD Flick. That has always done a decent job for me. But read the 4 page instructions first.

download it for free add the file to convert

press button when its converted it says put dvd in drive then it copies it to disc done.
takes about an hour.

Why don't you just burn the avi to a r/w disc or a normal dvd disc, stick it in the dvd player & see if it works. Saves a lot of time converting if it works.

i live in australia,the reason i mention that is we dont have the cheapest prices! but i bought a $25 dvd player that plays avi with no problems. but later you mention the problem is your xbox with no audio which confuses me, is the problem playing avi on a dvd player like the thread says, or on the xbox?
