I have been trying to figure it out, which hardware is causing the issues and am looking for ideas. I ran memtest for 15 hours no errors found in my ram, i also ran a CPU burn in utility (orthos) for 26 hours testing stability and did not find a problem. I know this is not much to go on for ideas. i will upload the .dmp files next time it happens but at this point i tried to reinstall windows 7.

ntoskrnl.exe was the only thing listed in the dump files i looked through.

We can examine the DMP files in ways you cant.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Start your own thread in the "Crashes and Debugging" section of the forum and attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

Yea, i plan on doing that once it happens again. I was just looking for things i could rule out. Would the dmps be able to pin point the exact problem? such as say my PSU is going bad and hardware is not getting enough volts or to much?

Dumps can reveal what drivers are running, what process was running, etc. If they all point to your video card, the logical step is to play with drivers or try a different card.

Or, we do specific hardware tests, such as RAM, hard drive, and CPU.

Please follow these directions for posting BSODs: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Don't post a new thread, just attach the Windows7_Vista_Jcgriff2 folder to your next post in this one.

While i have no .dmp files because it crashed with no OS installed during the install process i think i found the problem for it all. My mobo supports DDR3 1666(OC)/1333/1066 which i thought running my 2x2bg of ram at 1600 would be fine but apparently it can only run 1 stick at that. since iv changed the setting iv had no problems yet with blue screens when i was seeing them quite frequently.

Alright i thought i have solved this. It has not happend as frequently as it was cept for the first time today while reinstalling all my games. Heres a copy of the dump, im sure it is something RAM related and i do think a stick may be goin bad if not both.

The dump is a 0x4E dump, which is a memory corruption dump. This is probably a driver issue rather than a RAM issue, however, hardware could be at fault. I need to see the PTE and PFN table and walk the memlist, and unfortunately I'm not going to be able to see from a minidump. We are going to have to get at least a kernel dump, but preferably a full dump, to get to the bottom of this one, unfortunately.

How can i get one of those for you? How ever i have ran memtest for 15 hours with no RAM errors found. Failing PSU? maybe even bad slots on the mobo?

You need to make sure your paging file is RAM+64MB at least (for both MIN and MAX values) under system properties > advanced > performance > settings > advanced > change, and the dump type is set to complete under system properties > advanced > startup and recovery > settings > write debugging information. If you make any changes, you have to reboot for them to take effect.

Alright paging was set at 4093mb. I have 4g of RAM so i have set it appropriately (4160mb for both min and max), and i only have the options none, small memory dump , and kernel and it is set to kernel already.

Enabling the driver verifyer asap, also thought it should be known i have ran a 15 hour memtest on the RAM so i think it should be ok.

The page file should be 3x RAM. For you, that is 12GB.

It is best to let Windows manage the page file automatically. It knows best what to do, unlike the XP days.

Yeah, except it creates a MIN value that is less than RAM, which will cause corrupt dump files to be created if the paging file has not been increased to be larger than RAM when the box crashes, hence why you set it manually when actually trying to get a dump. Eternal, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl in your registry, and change the CrashDumpEnabled value to 1 and reboot. This will set it to complete, even though the UI will not reflect the change (and don't go into the UI again, or you'll set it back ;)). Reboot, as per previously recommended, for it to take effect.

Ok, crashed repeatedly before windows even finished loading the logon screen. Id turned on driver verifier and then reverted the paging file back to system managed, as soon as i changed that key in the reg and restarted it crashed upon loading windows. (currently on the same comp just system restored it)

Still a minidump, but more data. There's an Iop call for the I/O request, and an active IRP - unfortunately, because it's still a minidump, I can't give you more than that.

alright after making sure paging file was set and the complete dump is set im awaiting for it to crash again. Yet i also found a memory dump file that is 358mb, so it is to large to upload here anyway.

Should i re-enable the verifier?

At this point, if you're stable and set for a complete dump, yes.

Alright, i turned on the verifier (wish i could tell if it was really on but it did tell me to restart for changes to take effect) upon restarting no crashes yet, all the settings you have told me are in place and im waiting for the crash currently (if it happens) where exactly might it (them dmp file) be located when it happens?
%systemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP? would that be the proper file it would create under the systemroot folder?

I already have that dmp file zipped (found one there from the last time it crashed) it is to big to send through here though 356mb. unless it could be just a kernel and not a complete since i did not have that setting changed just yet.
