IE 400 Bad Request Error Again

Well, one month ago I replaced the router. Error stopped on all computers. Only, now I'm getting the error again. *sigh* And once again, its only on deviantart.

Nothing has changed. Absolutely nothing.

No, wait, I take that back. I went to Arizona to visit my family for 3 weeks. Came back just over a week ago on the 12th. This started on the 20th or so.


Think it has any connection? Same brand of router, its just my parent's router is older and the connection is much slower.

Maybe they updated it for a reason. Perhaps you should switch to the updated one.

Yeah, maybe... problem is all of our money is going to bills, so until its absolutely clear that we have no other choice but to get the other one (which we would have to pay the difference plus another fee to cover the extended warrenty from Geek Squad - doesnt transfer), I'm hoping for maybe some new ideas or suggestions.

Right now, replacing it is the very last thing I can suggest to any one in the house. Annoyance would be an understatement of their feelings.


Like I said, I went to Arizona for about 3 weeks and was using a different internet connection for that time. I dont know if that really has anything to do with it, but there it is.

Can any one help??? Its still happening, only now I cant get it to clear out. Before I was able to do what Capt. Sparrow suggested on my first 400 error post (page 3), but I just got the error again. Tried and when I went back just now, its still there...

Is it happening on all machines behind the router, or just the one? Also, if you bypass the linksys router and connect the machine directly to your internet connection, does the problem occur?

Please try cluberti's suggestion and connect the machine directly to your internet connection and see if you still have problems reaching the site. In addition, try your fiance's computer since in your previous thread, you wrote:

I asked him about it and he said he hasnt gotten any in a long while - I'm guessing since we replaced the router. So I guess its just mine this time around.

I havent tried connecting it to the modem yet. The next time it happens, if I can, I'll try. Its hard because I'm not the only one in the house that uses the net and I cant just break it all down to test my computer. And because it happens randomly, I dont have much control over it. If I'm lucky, it will happen while the kids are out at school and the fiancee is sleeping.


I also contacted HP about it, just to be sure and they said since its just on the one site, its either a server issue with deviantart, or a router issue if it stops happening when I connect straight to the modem.


The really odd thing is is that (normally) when it happens, I cant go to the home page of "deviantart.com", but I can go to a subpage of it such as my personal gallery "acwn-designs.deviantart.com" and it loads fine. But when I hit the dA logo to go to the home page, the error is still there.

Now I say normally because if I try and do that too often, it will happen on the rest of the pages.


And today, while I was talking to the HP tech, I went to my gallery page and let it sit a while. After it sat for about 5 - 10 minutes, the error cleared out. I dont know if it was because I had been sitting on the page or if it just cleared out on its own... but there it is.

Since HP suggested the same thing as cluberti, that sounds like the correct path. However, the point by HP and cluberti is that you need to connect your computer directly to the router "now" rather than waiting until it happens. Consider also that if there are multiple family members using the internet at the same time, there is likely going to be a lag at some point. If your connection is the "weakest" -- that is, the furthest from the source, that could also have an impact on your ability to load pages.

It can't hurt to clean out all temp files.

• First, save any files as TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
• Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. If you are using Vista/Windows 7 right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator.
• Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
• Important! If TFC prompts you to reboot, please do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway to ensure a complete clean.

TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB).

Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files.
-- TFC only cleans temp folders.
-- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. TFC will completely clear all temp files where other temp file cleaners may fail.

TFC requires a reboot immediately after running. Be sure to save any unsaved work before running TFC.

Why would I need to do it now when the error isnt happening? Its not going to tell me anything to plug it into the modem if the error isnt there. I can now view the site just fine, for the moment any way. Sorry, that just doesnt make any sense to me... Cause.. I mean, if it happens again and I plug my computer into the modem and it stops... its the router again. But if it doesnt, then its probably the site. ...Right?

I know being the furthest from the source could cause problems, thats why we have a signal repeater - otherwise we wouldnt get a signal at all. But I am starting to wonder if maybe the repeater is beginning to give out, its almost 3 years old...


And I cant exactly get up and tell the family "Everyone off, I have to check my computer and it requires that I take over the modem entirely." right this minute. Heck, I have to WAIT till they're done with a round to even fix the network if it goes down and I'm the only one that's been hit by it. God forbid I cut into everyone's game time. I'd really rather not deal with the icy glares and peeved off vibes. That is why I have to wait, I dont really have much of a choice.


However, before I go to bed I will try the TFC program. It cant hurt.


EDIT: Kay, used TFC. Cleared out 881 mb of temp files. Will see if that helps any.

One week. Its back. First I started getting errors that were saying basically that the site couldnt be found at ALL - not even subpages like my own. I dont know if that has anything to do with it or not, but I asked my fiancee to try it and he could get on the page, but when he tried to do anything on it he got a Parse Error. I was able to get on and browse shortly after that on my laptop.

That was about an hour ago, then the HTTP error comes in.

And, as per usual, I cant do anything about it because the kids are home and everyone is online. *sigh*



EDIT: Okay, flushing the DNS and Capt. Sparrow's suggestion on my old post worked this time around. BUT!! While I was rebooting I asked my fiancee to go to deviantart on his laptop and see what happened.

He runs FireFox on a Windows XP laptop. He got basically the same error - Invalid URL.

Sometimes I wonder about that myself, but for the sake of the peace in the house thats how things are. If its just one person thats having issues, they have to deal with it until everyone is at a point where its okay to break down the network. I hate it, but its also not exactly polite to just go through and unplug everything when they're all in the middle of something.

There is only so much I can do since I'm the only one its really effecting.


Plus its not really MY house, so I cant just change the rules.
