soudblaster and W7 redux

A long time ago I tried to install W7 ( 64 bit ) on my Dell XPS 710. I ran into that whole SB 0460 Soundblaster thing, you know, great graphics, broken sound. Anyway, after trying numerous fixes, with little success, I finally gave up and loaded the 32 bit OS. I just noticed last week, that SB has new drivers ( dated 6/20/10 or somesuch ). So, before I wipe my hard drive and again attempt the 64 bit OS installation, I'm just curious, has anyone tried the new drivers and do they work for dummies like me with little or no problems. I've been googling but I haven't found any definitive answers. Is it now a straight forward install and load the drivers and it works or what? Thanks for any info.

Install Win 7 with onboard sound disabled and no sound card in the system. Once the install of Win 7 is complete and the video drivers have been installed and the system restarted you can then install the sound device.
