FPS lag spikes every 3-4 seconds...

Ok so this problem just started this week. I play many games (i.e. CS:S, TF2, CoD4, MW2, etc.) and while playing, I get these random lag spikes every 3-4 seconds or so. I average 80-100 FPS in CS:S, but every couple seconds, It drops to 20 FPS and is virtually unplayable! I scanned my laptop for viruses and everything! It found a couple of things but it still did not help things out...

If anyone needs any more info to help me out, please do ask! This gets very annoying and is agitating the hell out of me because I really wanna play!

Thank you guys very much! Hope to here your solutions! :)

At that resolution (CPU bound) plus the fact that it only just started happening in the last week points to another process hammering the CPU which could account for the periodic slowdowns.

Outside of games, have you noticed any particular process using abnormally high amounts of CPU usage ? (using TaskManger). Noticed any odd processes etc?

Also which A/V found some things? It's plausible that it's still malware/infected.

I used 3 different A/V to scan: Malwarebytes, Avast, and spybot S&D. Also, the only things that were using a bit of CPU was Rainmeter and rocketdock... other then that, the things that were there before this started to happen are the same. Nothing new, nothing bad...

Should I give you a HiJackThis report?

The behavior suggests you have some anti malware/anti virus doing real-time scanning on your game's exes.

Typically you would type in "msconfig" into the search bar... or, I could have been less lazy and just read your HiJack this logs.

Have you tried excluding the game folders from Avast's real time scanning?

Have you tried the multi-media class scheduler regedit tweak yet?

Leave the multimedia class scheduler service running, but disable its network throttling "feature":

  • Open regedit
  • Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile
  • There will be an entry for network performance throttling, default value is 10; set it to FFFFFFFF hex (willl look like 0xFFFFFFFF to the right of the entry)
  • Reboot

Nope. Still did not work. I see no difference in the FPS drops what so ever. Any other solutions?

Just so I'm clear, all your problems began this week? Every game you had played fine right up until you got the virus, and before the virus you had no game issues whatsoever?

What virus did you get, and does Avast and Malwarebytes say you're now clean; that none exist on your system anywhere?

C:\Users\Ryan\explorer.exe (Heuristics.Reserved.Word.Exploit) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

That was from the log that was made after the scan with Malwarebytes

From what I seen, yes it did. No lag, no FPS drops (experiencing that now), everything ran smooth.
