Just curious...

A couple of things:

1 - is it a laptop that is going into power saving mode?
2 - have you tried a newer build?

I have an HP tx2500 series laptop that gives me BSODs if it goes into power...

If you don't want multiple icons, open your WoW folder and pin wow.exe to the taskbar.

The worst that will happen by not running...
