Here's a 3rd party theme that is easy on the eyes.
It's called Luna Silver yet when you install it, it's called Luna Metallic.
I use it on a daily basis due to poor eye sight.

This may be a long shot but I would run a SFC...

This may be a long shot but I would run a SFC /scannow (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html) which will fix any corrupted system files.

Nice work, kado897. I wish you could/would metalize the Documents/User icon plus the Network icon and post them for download.
If I had those two it would complete a copper colored desktop icons set...
