So there were 2 seperate install dvds and the same problem on both machines with completely different video ,...

I have finally figured out that it was the ethernet card settings which wanted to turn off machine when network was idle or what ever that setting is. I unchecked the box and haven't had one problem...

I saw microsoft updates installed 8 dot net updates and that seems to have fixed the random screen blanking. Been running awhile now and no blanking at all.
