Well I feel sheepish. I got home, the computer found even more updates, and after a reboot the fonts were working again. -- as with anything in windows (when in doubt reboot)

After further testing, the answer as stated above is to use 'fit-to-screen' option in 'maxifier', not 'full-screen', then it works. I don't have the performance issues stated in my original...

Oh... Just played around with 'The Maxifier' options, and testing one of them is 'Fit to screen' instead of 'full-screen', guess what, 'fit-to-screen' does not have the performance lull that...
