i been thinking of upgrading to windows 8 but i might have to go back to windows 7 if things don't' work out as its a possibility.

if you can't even go to the command line with windows DVD, then remove the hard drive and boot with ubuntu on the usb that would clear things to see if its the hard drive that causing the freezing...
