Microsoft Basic Adapter are the ones loaded from the OS when no graphics card drivers are installed. It will be only enabled when you uninstall your graphics drivers and restart your computer.

I was just lucky with my HP a6540d. Manual says it only supports E7000 series C2D's and I installed an E8600 and it worked fine. You can keep the CPU and get the GPU.

As for the processor upgrade, that is a haswell processor and the Z97 does not support sandy bridge architecture. The i5-4460 will also work...

HD 4540 or HD 5450? The motherboard will support any graphics card assuming it has a PCI-E slot (which it does have). Have you tried disabling onboard video in the bios?

Cyberpower thankfully don't use OEM products. Avoid known desktop brands like HP, Dell, Asus, Lenovo so you won't get yourself onto trouble of getting proprietary parts.
