Two things you might try:
1. Open a cmd box as administrator. At the C: prompt, type chkdsk and wait for the final result. If there are errors reported, type chkdsk /f, answer Y to the question...

I managed to fix the problem by taking ownership...

I managed to fix the problem by taking ownership of every key and AppID in the registry with those IDs and ensuring that System and administrators had full permission.
