Well, my problem is fixed... And I feel quite dumb. Somebody (not me, I guarantee you) unplugged the switch I had been using for a number of seldom-used peripherals and plugged my existing computer...

Sure have - many times. I've also tried setting a static IP address, leaving it with DHCP, uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, updating the drivers from the MoBo manufacturer's site (Biostar)...

Same issue

Got a new "kit" computer with a Biostar motherboard. Installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. The Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller does not connect to the network - ever. Sure hope someone has...
