Okay...I unplugged all external HD's / USB keys (had a couple because of audio recording programs) and was able to boot from the windows disc...so then I took out the installation DVD and it booted...

I used a cheap PCI card as well, I think it was the D-Link WDA-1320 Desktop Adapter. Worked fine, had to take it out to make room for a sound card though.
