I run openSUSE on my main rig and Windows 8 on my work laptop. Have no issues with 8 whatsoever. I'm sure half the 'haters' have not tried it, or given it a chance.

Ubuntu and most Linux disrtos' are pretty good with drivers these days; so I guess you got lucky...
