hdd crash need help to recover files

250 gb seagate with windows 7 pro. crashed and now it wont boot. hooked it up as slave and have tried several recovery programs, but no luck. says crc errors, or raw partition. I have it hooked...

Is windows backup and restore any good? using windows 7. If I use backup and restore to back up my stuff to an external drive, can I restore all programs as well as files?
