Disabled gigabit network driver

I could not update the driver for the gigabit network card - I downloaded the driver, but the system would not install it. I kept getting the message that the driver installed was the correct one...

Blue screen message - IRQL_not_less_or_equal

I finally looked at the blue screen message which is IRQL_not_less_or_equal. The web says this could be a registry problem. I would need to know how to fix this
