Firefox now targeted for scareware

Quote:
Purveyors of fake security software don't let much grass grow under their feet and continually make improvements to their social engineering lures.

While most of the talk for the past month has been their move to Mac with fake Finder pop-ups that appear to scan your computer, they haven't stopped innovating on Windows either.

Their latest scam? They detect your user-agent string from your web browser and display a fake Firefox security alert if you are using the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

Thanks for the heads up. As I use both browsers, I'll keep an eye out for this, although I've not seen it yet (and hope I never do). Users of other browsers, such as Chrome, Opera, etc, shouldn't be complacent as sooner rather than later this sort of scaremongering will target them as well.

IE9 new scareware protection
I know dear old Ed Bott is a confirmed MS man but this is an interesting article about how browsers deal with "social engineering" attacks' It's comparing IE9 with Chrome and it appears that IE9 is ahead of the game with this form of attack. I though it was interesting and useful to read whatever...
