MS Security Essentials Client Update Package

(...) offers performance enhancements and some new functionality within the program. The update includes:
  • New features were added to the command line utility that include:
    • Ability to specify a UNC share.
    • Ability to perform a custom scan of an entire folder in addition to individual files.
  • A performance improvement was made to the definition update process to correct an issue on computers with exceedingly large number of files.
  • A fix was made to correct an access violation in the antimalware service.
This update was launched today (July 26, 2011). Interesting enough, I've never tried to run a scan on a UNC share, and I do have a couple of shared drives...

A restart was not required.

Windows has a vendor to vendor, location to location system of updates.

The thread is four weeks old, and I just received the update today through Windows Update.

You could try clicking on the down arrow to the right of Help, then move down, and click on Check for software updates.
It should read your system and download the proper bit version.

I usually check for updates from MSE rather than use Windows Update (easier to access from the systray), so I missed to see it, but do have the update. It's great to see MS working hard on a free security tool that is free and very satisfactory for most users.
