Cyber criminals are facing more tech-savvy law-enforcement agents and harsher sentences

In the grand scheme, not much ever seems to improve in computer security. No matter how much we hone our security-defense strategies, how many firewalls we deploy, how many remote-buffer overflows we reduce, and how quickly we patch our OSes, IT systems keep getting hit by malicious hackers. If the computer security industry was to measure itself on the ultimate question of whether we're doing a better job of protecting computer users, the answer would be a definitive no.

Security will always be attacked at the weakest link which is the end user. The password hack of rockyou.com was most revealing in password behavior. Toms Hardware has an article with the top twenty passwords culled from a set of thirty-two million examples. "123456" was used by over 290,000 users. 12345 came in a distant second. <Insert obligatory luggage snark here.>

In other news a man in Buffalo, New York got "fed up" trying to configure a wireless password for his new router so he left it unsecured. The cops came calling after someone used his connection to download kiddie porn.

Stuxnet spread throughout Iran's nuclear program because of promiscuous use of infected USB devices.

The best firewall is the person using the computer. Also coming in as the worst, the person using the computer.

Depends on the email client you're using and you're surfing habits. When I switched fully to gmail I get almost zero spam. My yahoo account keeps getting it.
