On March 8 the FBI will turn off the servers used by the criminal gang it caught in Nov.2011 (see this forum: News-Security News posted by Britton30 on 11.11.2011.
The FBI kept the servers running because turning them off would have meant that millions of infected computers would not have had internet access. But they will now be turned off.
If you haven't done so, check whether your computer has been compromised by this DNSChanger.
The Fed. Office of Information Security (Germany) and the Fed. Police Office (Germany) advised people today to check for a possible infection.
It is done very easily by going to
DNS-OK.de Test bereitgestellt durch die Deutsche Telekom AG. This is NOT a virus scan and the result is known within a few seconds. The page coming up is in German but easily understood.
If a green bar with "DNS Konfiguration ist korrekt" is shown no infection is present. If a red bar with "DNS Konfiguration ist manipuliert" appears your computer is infected. In the latter case they advise to do a complete reinstall
(apparently it is difficult to remove the malmare).
I have tried it a few times --> no problem and the site is put online by the German Fed. Offices mentioned above and by German Telekom AG and absolutely safe.
I thought i should post this here, just in case..... and then you'll be without internet access after March 8.
Good luck.
