Browsers Beat Security Software in Phishing Protection Test Quote: You'd feel bad if a burglar broke into your house and stole your new tablet computer, for sure. But you'd probably feel worse if a slick door-to-door scammer convinced you to hand it over for a "factory recall."
You're smart; you wouldn't fall for that kind of snake oil. However, online scams that create convincing fraudulent websites can trick even smart people. That's why browsers and security suites alike now build in detection to help you avoid fraudulent "phishing" websites. A report released today by Austin-based NSS Labs reveals a surprising result: your browser alone is most likely better at phishing protection than your security suite. Source

Another confusing report for my remaining brain cell to digest. Quote: NSS Labs tested a dozen well-known security vendors: Avast, AVG, Avira, F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee, Microsoft, Norman, Norton, Panda, Total Defense, and Trend Micro. Trend Micro led the pack, with 92 percent detection. Kaspersky came next, with 85 percent. AVG, Norton, and McAfee clustered as a second tier, with 64, 63, and 61 percent respectively. Trend Micro has the best phishing protection. But when was the last time it received any overwhelming endorsement for general malware protection on this Forum? Of the browsers tested, Opera wasn't even included. But Bill ... didn't you post something just a few weeks ago about Opera being best at something security related? | My System Specs | | Computer type Laptop System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio VPCEB47GM Laptop OS Win 7 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel i5 2.4 Ghz Memory 8GB DDR3 Graphics Card Intel HD 3000 Sound Card IDT High Definition Monitor(s) Displays 15.6 WGXA Anti-Glare LED Screen Resolution 1280x800 Hard Drives 640Gb 7200rpm Antivirus MSE Browser Opera (primary) with IE9 backup |

Opera doesn't get any respect...
I believe the point would be that browsers are better at detecting phishing then AV programs. Also, not that Trend Micro is a great program, but as far as phishing, it performed better then the others.
