Windows 7: Just how much malware is on free porn sites?

Just how much malware is on free porn sites?

I've lost count of how many PC's I've removed viruses from & asked the people "Did you go to a porn site?" The answer is usually a resounding "NO." Then evidence surfaces that says yes they did & they sheepishly admit they "might have accidentally gone there"....or the old standby: "Must have been my kids..."

Did you know the Internet has pornography on it? We were just as shocked to discover that as you. In fact, much of this pornographic material is available for free—but that doesn’t mean there’s not a huge potential cost. Specifically when it comes to malware. One researcher found that among some of world’s most highly trafficked free pornography sites, the probability of coming into contact with malware can exceed 50 percent in some cases.

Security expert Conrad Longmore detailed on his blog an investigation into the prevalence of malware on some top pornographic sites. Utilizing data from Google’s Safe Browsing diagnostic tool, he calculated porn aficionados’ risk of becoming infected with malware. For example, visitors to Pornhub.com, the 63rd most popular website in the world (and 41st in the US) have a 53% chance of coming into contact with malware, according to his calculations.

Pornhub’s Safe Browsing report (completely SFW) states that of the 14,263 pages tested on the site over the previous 90 days, 1,777 resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but are you assuming that if a person has a lot of malware on his computer, he was probably on a porn site? I get malware on my computer sometimes and, no, I don't get on any porn sites. Maybe I'm too sensitive, but if a person saw that I had malware and then asked me if I was on a porn site I would be somewhat offended. Malware, as I'm sure you are aware, is all over the place.

Malware can be on any site. The smart way to handle the internet is with a Linux distro in a virtual partition. The chances of an infection are minimal and for files that you download you can always get them thorouhly checked by the on-line Virus Total before you move them to your host system.

And should your Linux system really get infected, it is not a big deal to delete the folder for the virtual partition and make a new one.

Yeah, shouldn't have put it that way. No, I don't assume everyone's going to porn sites, but I ask that question if the machine is heavily infected or has, for example, a nekked lady pic on the desktop. But yepperz, Malware is everywhere. Even sites such as Fox & the New York Times have been victims of Malware planted on their sites.
