Hacking suspect arrested for 'biggest cyberattack in history'

Quote:
A Dutch national suspected as the mastermind behind the largest DDoS attack ever recorded has been arrested in Spain.

The Associated Press reports that 35 year-old Sven Kamphuis, identified by The New York Times, was arrested Thursday in a city 22 miles north of Barcelona.

Originally from the Dutch city of Alkmaar, the hacking suspect operated from a mobile bunker — a van "equipped with various antennas to scan frequencies" and able to break into networks anywhere in the country. An Interior Ministry statement said that Kamphuis was able to use his "mobile computing office" to coordinate cyberattacks and speak with media before being arrested by Spanish police on the basis of a European arrest warrant issued by the Dutch. German, Dutch, British and U.S. forces all took part in the investigation.

AKA Catch me if you can. Would not be surprised, someone that clever and good but using his obvious skills for evil. Either you help us or spend the next 20 to 30 years in jail. Let me think.....

Hi there
He isn't the first and won't be the last.

People on being asked Why Climb Mt Everest -- often the answer is "Because it's there".

So long as computers exist on this planet some people will always want to hack into them no matter what the penalty is -- Now my views on the Death Penalty aren't going to be expressed on this Forum -- but I will say that having a Death Penalty doesn't seem to stop people murdering each other etc --so the threat of doing some serious jail time (or "Bird" I think it's called) isn't going to stop hackers either - and as others have said he will probably end up working for US Federal Govt or US Military at some 8 figure salary so what's a few years in jail.

Saves paying the mortgage or other bills and there's a HUGE salaried job and Pension pot waiting for him when he gets out.

If I'd been any good at that type of stuff I might have done it myself -- just saw a small snippet on TV how some countries jails especially in places like Holland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland (I'm ashamed to say) and even the Vatican State (provided you can stay there and avoid being transferred to the Italian system) etc are better equipped and more luxurious than some hard working people's HOMES. !!!

Cheers
jimbo

Actually, that was only asked once, and the person that answered "Because it is there" was George Mallory.

When and if found guilty send a piece of him to each country his hacking effected. The number one effected country should get the head.
