Microsoft warns of new Trojan hijacking Facebook accounts

Quote:
Microsoft has issued a warning that a new piece of malware masquerading as a Google Chrome extension and Firefox add-on is making the rounds, threatening to hijack Facebook accounts

First detected in Brazil, Trojan:JS/Febipos.A attempts to keep itself updated, just like normal, legitimate browser extensions, Microsoft noted in a security bulletin late Friday.

Well, the best thing is not to install any unknown extensions or add-ons, but here's a quote from Microsoft in the article. This is pretty much just an advisory to warn everyone with more info to hopefully follow later.

Here is a idea but painful to some. Stay off of Facebook for a few days until the problem is worked out.

You could also use IE9 or 10, if you must access FB; they are evidently not targeted by this browser extensions hack.

It seems strange that MS comes out with the warning about the Chrome and Firefox extension exploits. They should have notified Google and Mozilla, prior to releasing this information to the public. They may have, but the MS Malware Protection Center did not state anything about notification of the vendors.

One may wonder, if it is part of Microsoft's ongoing media blitz...

Hi there
Best response yet. In any case "Farcebook" is becoming more and more "Adware" and if you don't take the commercials it won't be long before it will COST you to use the service.

I'd go even further than stay off for a few days -- stay of it FOR GOOD and go back to making contact with REAL PHYSICAL people again.

Cheers
