$100 malware kit lets anyone build their own CryptoLocker

Quote:
The CryptoLocker ransomware is one of the most alarming developments in malware we’ve seen in recent years. Things may get much, much worse, however. Someone is selling a DIY malware kit that builds custom CryptoLocker knock-offs for just $100.

Malware kits are nothing new. For years, cybercriminals looking for low-hassle ways to generate quick, illicit revenue streams have leaned on kits like Zeus and SpyEye. This new one — called PowerLocker or Prison Locker — adds a familiar and unwelcome new twist.

Like CryptoLocker, PowerLocker is designed to take an infected system’s files hostage. They’re encrypted using Blowfish and locked with a 2048-bit private RSA key.
