Symantec has made free URL-checking software available. Norton Safe Web Lite checks links displayed in search results from Google, Yahoo, and Bing, and alerts the user to any that maybe unsafe to visit.

Thank you JMH!

Note:
  • this is the same program (link checker) which comes with other paid Norton products like NIS and Norton 360.
  • It only supports Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, or Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher (so unfortunately no option for Opera, Google Chrome, Safari and browser like these)

It's hard to know which of these types of programs to use (as with any security program, I suppose).

NoScript saved me from a clickjacking attack. WOT has the site listed as red but both Norton and McAfee have it listed as green.

At the moment I am just using Norton Safe Web because I have NIS.

Seems to be a common state...Mc Afee as the same free offer when you DL software from well known site

well, it works when using web search...I nearly got trapped yesterday not respecting their Green/Orange/red bookmarks!

I have more trust in WOT. I've been using it for almost a year now. Even if it's user-free, I trust it more than Norton and McAfee, being run by professionals.
