Grouch hi.. I've tried to download and install it from there... it gets almost installed then it stops..
I don't know what to do next... it's just seems to keep sitting there.. waiting.
I'll be glad to do test if it ever installs I think it's just dead now...
I may have to reboot to get it off my XP screen.
thanks

Hello M'Lady, me again :) Deep breath. OK, since I thought you had Java working, and just the control panel link wasn't. I'll ask a few things if I may?

1st) When you go to the Java site, are you still just getting the red x, or does it say you have Java installed?

How do I test whether Java is working on my computer?

2nd) You say you have the wrong version of Java installed. Are you talking about what you first installed yesterday? Because the download from FileHippo was correct. You showed me a screenshot of your registry that showed the correct version installed.

3rd) You mentioned trying an install today that hangs and doesn't finish (not an usual complaint, and something I've experienced myself installing an update), were you never unable to complete that?

If indeed you don't have Java working yet (not the control panel icon, but Java not detected by the website). We can tackle that. If this is the case, and the issue is the install hangs and doesn't complete, I'd suggest trying the install in safe mode.

Let me know, sorry this is such a pain, we'll get this somehow, we just need to all get on the same page, so to speak, so we know where we stand. A Guy

1. I still get the RED X there while trying to confirm my Java is working correctly.
2. Jacee said I had installed the wrong version.. that's what I was going by.I was supposed to use the JRE 21 version ..
3.As far as I know.. It never did complete.. not on that particular screen it totally stopped..
I left it for quiet sometime.. when I returned it was still there stopped... So I rebooted my pc.

I've tried to follow whatever has been suggested.
Here's the Java test page screen shot I hope it shows for you.

Indeed it looks like Java isn't working. In PM you said you saw something that was working now that didn't. It uses Java?

Try this page as well, see if it sees Java, I've had it work when the Java page wouldn't
