    UltimateDefrag

I want to maintain good performance in my system and hard drive. Can someone that use this program or know about tell me the best configuration for it?

right now is configured like this..

    High performance is set to

automatic [15] GB of most used data

    Strict placement

in costume files i added this order

    C:\Windows
C:\cache (cache of fire fox browser)
    C:\Program Files (x86)
    C:\users\charlie\documents

In Wild cards i included .exe, dll, bmp,gif ,doc, pf, jpg, sqlite, wmv ,dat, inf, avi, wav, ttf, map, mp3

    *note: like maps from games

    In Archive area

Automatic [8] past days data was not used

    Fast Placement

    I unchecked Respect Layout.ini

I also moved the MFT and MTF reserve zone to a more outer track in the hard drive, is this ok?

    LM,
You are going to turn out to be your own worst enemy.

Just set everything back like it was before you started on things which were applicable to Win 3.x and even Win XP.

If you want to defrag you disk, then use CONTIG from SysInternals.

From a command prompt you can run contig c: -s -q

I agree here, don't use it...

Try the SysInternals program recommended above or...

If I remember Sysinternals dont do a defrag program. UltimateDefrag is a very good and unique one.

@LM2008, you dont need to worry about every minutia in the settings. I just have high performance, respect layout.ini, put folders close to MFT enabled.

I think your cut/paste/delete/copy operation went astray.

I had recommended CONTIG and another had recommended Auslogiic's defragmentation software. The Auslogic product is also good.

Smart Defrag works great with Win 7.

Smart Defrag - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

The Pro version is even better if you can get it.
