DVD+R or DVD-R for burning DVDs?

with DVD-R, you will be compatible with the majority of DVD home players in households, including old ones. It is seen as a DVD.
Nowadays however, latest DVD home players can read every format.

For movies to be played on DVD home players, it is effectively best compatibility to burn at a 4x speed. Writing strategies at higher speed will give some issues to some DVD home players.

Brands are no more too big of an issue nowadays, because the majority of them use the same process for production and chemicals (phtalocyanine).

From what I understand, the biggest difference for +R or -R is with DL media.(Double Layer)

With +R DL media, if you're making a 1-1 backup of DVD media, the layer transititon point will remain the same as your original disc.

With -R DL media, the layer transition point is fixed. It will not remain the same as the original disc.

So for DL media, I would deffinitely recommend +R DVD's.

For videophiles who like the layer transition in an spot that's not noticeable. A transition point in the wrong scene can be quite annoying.
That's when you get the slight pause. Although some oiginal discs have a bad transitition point to start.

It's the little things that really tend to irritate me.
