Free Route - Sun Virtual Box + Linux + Wine = GamePlay : ) The speed of those old games probably won't be affected.

Not Free Route - Sun Virtual Box + XP = Gameplay. Easiest way to do it short of going back to XP

DosBox will work for most DOS games

who said you are changing your operating system? Install sun virtual box on vista or windows 7, install linux or xp from within that virtual computer.

You're still in windows 7 or vista or whatever.

No one said anything about changing your OS. You would be virtualizing XP inside of your current install. That's how people are able to run very old apps, while still keeping Windows 7...and also not going to the horrid solution of dual booting.
