You might look here: (It's called Readiris)
Readiris 12 - OCR Software | Convert your Paper Documents into Editable Text!
According to the website, the program costs $149. You might also take a look at AbbyFine Reader 10. I've used some of their older products, which seem to work well.
Also, doing a google search leads to using ONENote, which is a part of office 2010. Have you installed it? Here is a bit of info: Office 2010 Ocr.
There is lots of info if you do a google search.
Thanks PWEGAR
I do know about these products BUT I must have a lightweight ACTIVEX API like MODI provides. The MODI API (OCR part) is very simple and easy to use. You pass over an image of the region of interest - it gives you back its best guess in PLAIN TEXT. There is no attempt at formatting, font/style changes or giving you back a file in an obscure format - just plain text.
SABOTAGE - Microsoft dumping (deprecating) the MODI support citing "64 bit platforms" and other "weasel words" is just an attempt to force us all to use the hideous XPS as an interchange format.
SCANSOFT/OMNIPAGE (now NUANCE) originally wrote the MODI OCR that Office grudgingly supplied. Now it is difficult to tell what to buy to get this back - Am I forced to buy $5k worth of SDK - can I deploy runtime version - licensing??
[I find W7 and with even more "daft virtualising" than Vista just another ... well that's another thread]
