    Nero 8 not working

    Hi,
I have just uninstalled Nero 8 from Win 7 HE 64 bit, it keeps freezing up and I have to switch off by holding down power button!!

    Is there any suggestions?
Is there any free stuff out there I can use to back up / clone of DVDs?

    Thanks

I would personally recommend BurnAware - Free Burning Software and DVD Copy Software

The full version is not free but it's a pretty good alternative to Nero. Here's the comparison of versions: BurnAware versions

Speaking of alternatives, you can also check this awesome website for useful links

This isn't really an answer, but I've been using Nero 8.3.13.0 under Win7 Home Premium X64 without any problem. It's sort of a waste, because I only have the burning software installed, but it works OK.

    Hi there
While not answering your question I think this shows what happens when what was an excellent and almost "THE Standard" for CD / DVD burning product just gets too bloated and over feature full with all sorts of stuff that isn't any good.

The last really good release of NERO was release 6 but with VISTA and W7 one had to reluctantly upgrade to NERO 7 - much more bloated than NERO 6 but still semi passable.

From then on it's gone rapidly downhill and I'll be surprised if it DOES survive for very much longer. Almost everyone I know never uses NERO any more.

(Any buddying Software developers -- if you design a product concentrate on its CORE strengths and be VERY careful each time you think of adding "new features".
Ensure new features are really that and ENHANCE the functionality of the CORE product otherwise invariably this will lead to overbloat and your product will just wither away).

    Cheers

so how is not my post not an answer? *sigh*
There is a FREE version of the program which has everything he asked for, but I intentionally said that if he needs something more and didn't mention, the full version isn't free... The free version is free to use forever.

    Hi Gornot and everyone,

Gornot, what is the FREE version you talked about?

I dont copy DVDs very often as you can see, I just want to make a copy of a copy of some classic DVDs I have, I lost the originals, so dont want the copies to get destroyed and end up with nothing.

Copy a DVD under 4.5GB to another DVD?

    Thanks in advance.

version 8 is known to be buggy, upgrade to version 9

Nero 8 has not been tested to meet all of the technical requirements to be Compatible with Windows® 7

The Windows DVD maker is integrated into Windows 7
You can find it in "all programs" on the start menu

By the way, using a free version of BurnAware you can't, in fact, copy one disk to another, but you can make an ISO image and store it on your HDD, or an external device and save yourself the bother of taking care of multiple copies of a single DVD.

It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but in the long run, my preference is to have ISO images that I can mount to a virtual drive instead of stacking tons of physical copies; and it's worth it.
