I downloaded 9.4 from filehippo, but when I tried to install it, I get the same errors. I decided just to use the Foxit reader, which I think is pretty nice, anyway. Besides, I dislike trying to install the Adobe reader when it installs garbage that I don't want--some McAfee thing, for one. You have to uninstall all the crapware, even if the original install of what you really want works.

Even on the Foxit install, you have to watch for sneaky toolbar installations you may not want.

Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

Yes and no, depends on whether you get the installable version or the standalone version,

Just for future reference if anyone picks this thread up in a search, i had problems with Adobe Reader standalone installing updates saying i did not have adequate Security permissions to install the update.

The fix was before doing the update change the Compatibility Mode to "Run this Program as Admin."

Thanks, Mitchell64, for trying. First I get error 1310. I click "ignore," and I immediately get error 1304. Retry doesn't work, so I have no choice but to cancel the installation.
