Are these zipped files or executables?

    Do you have supervisor rights?

Is this a home computer, or library/work/school?

Try the .reg files on this site for Vista: JTB World Blog: Have you lost your .EXE file extension association in Windows Vista?. As Vista and 7 are quite similar, this should also work in 7.

    rjmach,

If you right-click on a file that you have downloaded to the desk top,
what is the first option shown?

Sounds like your file associations have gotten messed up.
