VMware is the best, I have been messing with the Windows version lately to see how it holds up, but VMware still beats it.

I meant virtual desktops as in - multiple desktop spaces. Like the rotating cube of desktop spaces in nix.

Hi there
you can pick up a 4 desktop version from these

Windows Sysinternals: Documentation, downloads and additional resources

I'm not sure if it still works with builds later than 7100 as I haven't used it for a while but it DID work on 7100.

There's other goodies in that package as well.

cheers

Best virtual desktop for Windows 7

I have used Vern (virtual environment resource navigator) for over 10 years now, with its "sister" Blanch (a button launcher panel). They are from "One Guy Coding", which I think is no longer in business. But you should be able to pick it up somewere still. It is the best of over 10 or so I have tried over the years by far.

Although quite outdated, this site has a decent list.

I'm using DeskSpace and absolutely love it. It is extremely customizable and the closest to Linux's Compiz Desktop Cube I have come across. In fact, I greatly prefer it to Compiz because of it's customizability. It's free to try but, IMO, well worth the purchase price.
