Windows 7: Why Windows live Essential 2011 is bulky?

Hello, In the windows update, there is the 2011 Windows live Essential with size of 157,8 Mo! It is a bulky update! Is this normal? why this huge size for a messenger? Thank you

It allows you the option to install all features or simply update the choices you already made and have installed. Once downloaded and installed through the MS updates using a temp folder the bulk of that is removed since those are only temporary installer files along with the main cab files for each feature.

You can download individual components like Moviemaker from the Microsoft web site. I would just download components you think you might use.

If you have the older version on now just select the option to update the present and later for anything else separately if you decide to add any more later. The update goes fast but get prepared for the change of menu when you first try to open up the contacts screen. That will take care of seeing the option for that being listed in the updates constantly whenever you go to check for newer ones.

The first is seeing the new larger default screen with FaceBook/Twitter postings by the most commonly used contact or news reports listed on the left side mostly. When clicking on the MSN or FB/Twitter buttons in the center you will then see the contacts list appear on the right as that screen grows a little.

You can "hide' updates. I have hidden the "Live" update notification. I do not have any of the "live" programs installed.

Go to Windows Update and switch to Manual. Then run Windows Update.
You will be notified as to how many of what type of update are available.
Click on that msg so that you get a list of "updates".

Highlight the update you don't want. Now right-click on it and choose "hide".

They aren't gone but they are out of sight. You will notice that the Windows Update dialog window has an option on the left-hand side about unhiding.

With major software suite upgrades I actually advise that users follow the accepted best practice for operating systems and un-install the original and install a fresh copy of the suite.

This provides, IMO, a more stable install of the new suite, as is the case with operating systems.

Obviously you have to treat each case on it's merits as the un-install re-install is likely to remove any customizations that have been made, (though not in all cases), but this can be a minor inconvenience in the long run.

I also follow this route with smaller applications, normally with a major version change 1.x to 2.x etc

Agreed! Many prefer to leave everything set for automatic however which can turn into a problem when the latest drivers go on with the newer application portion.

That effects addon devices as well as your video, sound, softwares when a newer version is released but only part is through the updates.

For the Live Essentials however the upgrade of that when selected from the optional list with the manual option used the message to run WL. Messager was reopened to see the new wider screen and no contacts or options displayed until clicking on either the MSN or FB/Twitter button(rectangular) in the center of the initial screen.

The download and choice of only updating what was already installed was seen immediately however unlike other softwares or a full set of packages being installed where you would want to first remove everything for a totally fresh install.
