Uninstalling a 32 bit program on 64 bit version of 7

I recently installed a 32 bit program, using compatibility mode, on my computer with a 64 bit version of Windows 7. Everything worked fine with the install but I have since acquired a 64 bit version of the same program and want to install it. The problem is, when I try to uninstall the 32 bit version (in ad/remove programs), the uninstaller/installer won't open. There is an error message that says "Windows can't run a 32 bit version of this program on a 64 bit operating system." How can I uninstall this properly? Thanks in advance.
