It stands to reason that you should be able to log right into WLM as well. But that also brings up the type of connection, campus firewall which apparently isn't blocking any login at other places that require a Live id, and mainly back to what you have running on the system there that could be infering.

I could see one possible temporary setback with the report on WLM 2009 being disabled for a brief peroid which likely explained a few rough times seen here while that was going on for signing in and back to normal. At some times simply signing in will take a bit likely due to the volume of users at the moment but always succeeds.

With the stuff I loaded 7 up here with you would think the problem would be being seen here not there. Which reminds of what can still occur even when you have a protection like an av program disabled yet still leaving one item active like when shutting down the program with the exit option.

From what you have detailed so far there may still be one exception you need to take care of with Norton or discover what other programs that require internet access that could be clashing with things. You could also be having a registry problem of some type getting in the way. Or you may have to make a change of settings for something in the Local Policy editor if you have used any system tweaks or customizations?

The best advice here at this time would be look over everything even the slightest changes since having the older WLM and working well and the new version. You may find that only one simple thing upset the apple cart and you'll be asking "how could I have missed that?".

Norton isn't the problem. The old WLM worked just fine with Norton. Norton has labeled the new WLM as safe. The campus firewall is not blocking it. My computer's firewall is also not locking it.

I have not made any changes to my computer's settings since the upgrade. Norton is the only program that has a online connection.

I have tried to contact support. However they are useless.

Are you mistyping anything? That keeps coming to mind since all it takes is one character to be off and you simply won't be able to log into anything anywhere. Repeat installs and no software clashes found suggests that would typically be the most likely conclusion anyone would have.

One way to know if that was the case would actually require creating a new Windows Live account with a new id. Once you have all your contacts in on the new account at the mail end you would simply log into WLM using the new id. Without seeing any specific error messages being repeated it sound that simple. Plus there's no way to troubleshoot further.

I am spelling everything correct. I have an account with my school email. I just tried that as well, and it was also unable to login. It got the same error message.

What error was seen? That's what you have to keep track of in as much detail as possible for troubleshooting.
I still this a bit odd however since you may have problems with a beta but not repeatedly with the finished version unless something still wasn't configured correctly.

Another possibilty is ruled out as far as location since you had the 2009 WLM running without porblems. You still have to admit the situation sounds more like user error then any specific software issues. Backtracking on everything is what can rule any of that out however.

There's nothing to backtrack. I have not made any changes to my computer since the upgrade. I have not added any new programs to my drive.

There has to be something that's not agreeing with the newer version and is keeping you from signing into the live servers. It may have something to do with the updated security or something already installed causing an unseen problem as far as configuration.

But like I was saying paying attention to any error messages are about the only clues you have now to work with. One other possible thought would be the need to manually configure the TCP and SOCK settings in the connections>advanced settings in order to log into the messenging service.

You have a unique problem for sure since we have covered about everything we can so far. With the automatic configuration not working on the newer version as it should that would be the last option open unless you continue seeing specific errors.

That stinks! Too bad you still didn't have the older version saved to a folder where you could remove the new to revert back.

The only thing I can add here is that you will have to go back over everything you have installed even try disabling all startup items to see if you are able to identify the one process holding up the works for you there. Something is grabbing the internet protocol WLM uses.

lately on an older Vista laptop a fake antispyware program left the owner unable to get online while the connection was solid suggesting you may have been hit by a bug at some point. While the bug itself is no longer present it made some changes effecting WLive.
