MTS file format on Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 I have downloaded the new version of WLMM 2011. My Sony HD Handicam outputs MTS video files. Do I have to convert these files to (?what type of file?) before I can use them in WLMM 2011. I know they didn't work very well in the previous version. | My System Specs |

That is an unusual format that even the Windows Essentials Codec pack does not support. But I believe it is supported by the K-Lite codec pack. ( Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.50 (Full) - FileHippo.com ). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

MTS file format on Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 Well, I downloaded and ran the K-lite Codex Pack 6.50 (full). However, I really don't know what that accomplished. I still have the same question...
Do I have to convert these files (MTS) to (?what type of file?) before I can use them in WLMM 2011?
Also, while I'm at it....What happened to "Auto Movie" in WLMM 2011? Is it still available and I simply can't find it...or is it no longer available? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba S300 S2504 OS Windows 7 Professional |

What does actually happen if you try to open that MTS file in WLMM? And Automovie I do not see either. But I never used that. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

mts is apparently some wrapper for mpeg4 material
I found this Video about converting/editing those clips.
Hope that helps you along a bit
It never fails to amaze me how many of those trashy $30.00 programs emerge with every new format. If I ever get into a situation to use .mts I know now that my TMPGEnc Express 4 can handle it (just like it hanldles the Vista/Windows 7 tv record formats)

MTS file format on Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 Well, so far it seems that WLMM 2011 handles the mts file, so maybe this is an enhancement from the older version. When I tried to create/edit mts files in the older version, they were choppy...both within the WLMM program and when I saved them to a DVD movie.
In response to this question, someone replied that: "mts is apparently some wrapper for mpeg4 material". I'm not sure what that means.
The following is a list of supported file types in WLMM2011 help files Windows Media Video (WMV) files
.wmv Windows Media files
.asf and .wm AVCHD files .m2ts and .m2t Apple QuickTime files
.mov and .qt DV‑AVI files
.avi Microsoft Recorded TV Show files
.dvr-ms and .wtv MPEG‑4 movie files
.mp4, .mov,.m4v, .3gp, .3g2, and .k3g MPEG‑2 movie files
.mpeg, .mpg, .mpe, .m1v, .mp2, .mpv2, .mod, and .vob MPEG‑1 movie files
.m1v Motion JPEG files
.avi and .mov
On another note, I did find Automovie, it is listed as Automovie themes | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba S300 S2504 OS Windows 7 Professional |
