Windows 10: Best Guess As To When Avail. ?

    Hello,

Want to buy a new desktop PC, but would like to wait until the
    new Windows 10 is avail.

What are the latest "guesses", rumors, and opinions as to when this might be ?

BTW: For a Desktop model, who has the best reputation for quality these days ?
Have a HP now, for the last 3 yrs and has been "reasonably" O.K.

Would you folks recommend HP for a Desktop, or is there a consensus now for a better quality Desktop ?

    Much thanks; appreciate the help,

    Bob

Later this year is all I've been hearing (ok, reading). My SWAG (Scientific Wild ahem Guess) is October or November.

Waiting for the release of Windows 10 to upgrade is not really an issue as Microsoft has already stated that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for all licensed windows 7 and 8.1 uses for the first year after release

    Desktop manufactures :/
Really depends on your budget I personally wouldn't buy from h-p
Dell/ Acer are my top ones but then again it's mostly about your budget on how good or bad a machine will be,
    I've had my Acer ax-3810 since 2009 a mediocre system approximately 6-700.00us
I have a gateway M series laptop of the same age and price range still kicking strong both with new ssd's

But yes win-10 Christmas shopping is in order :)
Although the upgrade offer is free I will most likely wait and see if a retail oem is released then use it so I can for sure clean install without jumping through a bunch of hoops

X2 on staying away from HP. Based on my experience with Acer products, stay away—far, far away— from them too. I've had pretty good luck with Asus and Lenovo. My best luck has come from building my own machine.

If you are going to wait for Windows 10 (probably at least 6 months), you may as well wait for the latest generation of Intel processors (Skylake).

Some Skylakes will be released this year, possibly before Windows 10, and some will likely not be out till 2016. The last I heard, 2015 should see at least some of the desktop models, so you might be able to get a desktop with Skylake and Windows 10 by late this year.

Ten years ago, you might have had some luck trying to identify the better OEM PC manufacturers. Probably would have been Dell at that time.

Now, the manufacturers are placing more emphasis on laptops, notebooks, tablets, etc, with desktops taking a seat farther back. Pre-built desktops are trending more toward commodity products, with fewer configuration options. It's more of a crap shoot with no manufacturer standing out from the others. Customer service has gone from OK to poor or mediocre--just hope you don't have to use it. With a gun at my head, I'd probably still go with Dell, although I had an unforgivable customer service experience with them about 8 years ago (bad monitor under warranty) and will never personally buy from them again.

I particularly hear bad things about Acer support, but on the other hand I don't hear glowing reports about any of Acer's competitors.

Hiya does that mean it'll be October or November when we get our free upgrade to 10?

Actually, it was recently announced that M$ is shooting for a June release. Considering the bugs that are still in the test version, I'm thinking either M$ is overly ambitious in that estimate or, for the sake of getting it out as soon as possible, will release a buggy version.

I think HP desktops are not that bad (laptops is another story). I own HP and Dell desktops. If you never plan to make upgrades to the box, it does not matter which one you take. But for working in the box, the HP is a LOT better than the Dells which are tight inside (same size box). Other makes I have never considered.
