1. The Lite version is free, and has worked perfectly fine for me.
2. There have been some very recent DVDs that have given me trouble in DVDfab alone, such as The Other Guys. If I run Passkey in the background, I see the correct stream and can continue on without issue. I only run Passkey when I encounter an issue in DVDfab.

When I got my new HP + Windows 7 64-bit, I dl'ed and installed DVD Shrink v.015 and tried to open + backup without changing any settings i.e., default settings (since I didn't know of any of them previously). DVD Shrink opens the DVD fine but fails to backup (I think it got as far as 8% then blacks out), that's when I searched the web for some help.
