An error occured while installing XlifeRedist.msi

Hello all I joined this forum hoping to get some clarity on this ^^

I just bought a new computer (I think you can see the specs in my profile) and I wanted to test GTA IV pretty badly. So I decided to buy it off Steam. Well it is not really working since nothing just happens when I click "Login" at the Social Club program.

I read somewhere that I needed to install Games for Windows Live, well this does not work either for some reason. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I get the error that is in the topic-name. Tried several versions with no luck, tried turning off some background applications that might interfere with no luck either(why would Skype or Pidgin/Bittorrent interfere anyway?)

I looked this up in the event viewer.

Product: Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE Redistributable -- Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC90.CRT,version="9.0.21022.8",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x 86",type="win32"'. Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80070308. assembly interface: IAssemblyCacheItem, function: Commit, component: {B708EB72-AA82-3EB7-8BB0-D845BA35C93D}
After that another message is visible, which is stated as Level "Information" but as Source "Windows error reporting".

I pretty much updated my computer and installed all the .NET framework software through Windows Update, so I think this would be fine, if it would had anything to do with this.

Thanks in advance for the help.

EDIT: The topic name should have actually been "An error occurred while installing XliveRedist.msi" This is the error I am getting.

Fixed the issue, by re-installing Windows 7 and then after the drivers first installing C++ Runtime Redist 2010 and then just installing GTA IV with the GFWL etc. All worked. Skipped all .NET Framework related updates though.

Oh well
